The term ‘aromatherapy’ was first used in 1928 by Gattefossé, a French chemist working in a perfumery operated by his family. Gattefossé became fascinated by the therapeutic effect of the oils after he discovered by chance that lavender quickly healed a severe burn on his hand and helped prevent the formation of scars. He also discovered that many essential oils are more effective in their entirety than their synthetic substitutes or isolated active ingredients. As early as 1904, Cuthbert Hall demonstrated that the antiseptic power of eucalyptus oil in its natural form was much stronger than the antiseptic power of its isolated main active ingredient ‘eucalyptol’ or ‘cineole’.

The damage caused to humans, animals and nature by agriculture, which is becoming more and more industrialised with each passing century and which is now intensively carried out with chemical pesticides, attracts the attention of people from all walks of life. In many areas from our dining tables to home cleaning, from personal care to baby products, people no longer want to use synthetic products, but completely natural products. Although the word ‘‘natural’’ is written on almost all packaging today, in fact, there is no natural content in the products in question. This is where the concept of ‘‘organic’’ comes into play. Products that do not use synthetic ingredients, artificial fertilisers, GMOs and irradiation technology at any stage until they reach the consumer are considered to be organic. The process is supervised by the Control Certification Bodies authorised by the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry of Republic of Türkiye through laws. If the product is organic, the organic logo designated by the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry of Republic of Türkiye is placed on the packaging. Thus, consumers can choose the organic product they want in line with their needs with peace of mind.
